Bridal Fairs

At the end of August, all of us at Distinctive Occasions were working at the Buffalo Bridal Association’s (BBA) Wedding Fair at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens. I think Bridal Fairs are a great way to get started (or finish up) planning your wedding so I wanted to share some insight with you.

First of all, the Buffalo Bridal Association, of which Distinctive Occasions is a member, provides brides with a contact list of trusted wedding vendors. That right there saves a lot of hassle. You don’t have to spend a lot of time on Google or Angie’s List trying to find out who’s out there and who’s reputable.

The real time saver is the bridal fair itself. Most brides have day jobs and it’s tough to free up time during the day to call vendors, meet for appointments and do all of the things it takes to plan a wedding. You could easily take a Sunday afternoon and book almost your entire wedding. More realistically though, you’ll be able to get all of your questions answered and meet your potential vendors in person, maybe set up a few appointments, or have a few appointments on the spot if the booth is well staffed.

If you book with a vendor at a bridal fair, they are almost guaranteed to give a discount. They want to know that their time was well spent attending the bridal fair and they want to give credit to brides who are serious about securing a date with them.

If you don’t want to book, you can at least try to win prizes. There were over 60 vendors at Salvatore’s and 90% of them gave away a prize each during the morning and afternoon raffles. If you’re in it to win it, you’ll want to get there about an hour in and stay until about an hour before. This way, you can participate in both raffles.

Assuming you stay for both raffles, you’ll also be there for both fashion shows, where they also give things away.  Take the opportunity during one of the two shows to speak to vendors who are typically busy at their booths all day. They will be able to give you undivided attention.  The fashion show is worth a watch for several reasons: gowns, tuxes, bridesmaid dresses, accessories, hair and makeup. Don’t skip out just because you already bought your dress!

Another tip to a productive bridal fair is to bring pre-printed labels with your name, your fiancé’s name, your address, phone number, e-mail and wedding date. This will save you tons of time – you won’t have to fill out a single form at any of the booths.

The next BBA event is the Buffalo Bridal Expo on February 2nd and 3rd at the Seneca Niagara Casino. See you there!
